After tangling with tentacles in Octopus Armada, it was surprising to see Blue Guru get all biblical for Clash of the Seraphim. The story is pretty interesting, recounting a classic good against evil tale, but it's too bad there's no real battling to be had in the actual game. It's just an angel on one side, a baddie on the other, with a grid in the middle where symbols cluster up and drop areas move from spin to spin. The War in Heaven idea did pique interest, yet the follow-through tended to flounder, the gameplay feeling eclipsed by the lofty heights set by the back story.

There are moments to be had in Clash of the Seraphim, though. Well, mainly one type of moment, really, when wilds land in a Light or Dark drop area and transform all others within it wild. This could, admittedly, from time to time, create a bit of a thrill. More so during free spins since there the drop areas could get quite large. There was a noticeable difference between the two free spins options, too, and Dark Free Games could be ridiculously punishing. As well as cobbling together sizable clusters within its drop area, Dark Free Games had no qualms producing no wins, except those garnered on the triggering spin. Drop area conversions were critical in creating larger cluster wins, which was good since smaller sized clusters don't have particularly exciting values. Neither does Clash of the Seraphim on the whole either, really, which generated its highest payout of 3,938x the bet during 10 billion simulated spins.

Blue Guru Games is certainly magpie minded when it comes to selecting themes for their slots, swinging wildly from one topic to another. Clash of the Seraphim is another one with an intriguing back story, possessing decent artwork and a soaring soundtrack, yet the action struggled to reach the heights of the game's premise.
